Our first hour will remember the life and legacy of Robin Williams, the Academy Award-winning actor who originally became a star as a result of ABC television series Mork & Mindy. Our guests will include television writer/producer David Misch (Police Squad!, Late Night with David Letterman, Duckman, Saturday Night Live,Funny: The Book). David began his career in television as a story editor on Mork & Mindy.

Paul Green will join us in our second hour for a look back at the life and career of Jeffrey Hunter, the actor best known for his starring roles as Martin Pawley in The Searchers, Christopher Pike in the original pilot episode of Star Trek, and Jesus Christ in Nicholas Ray’s King of Kings. Hunter’s sudden death in May 1969 was a shock to everyone who knew him and left many wondering what direction his life and career would have gone, had he lived. Some of those questions are answered in Paul’s latest book, Jeffrey Hunter: The Film, Television, Radio and Stage Performances, which we’ll discuss in our second hour.

Also joining us in our second hour will be author Mary Ann Anderson (Ida Lupino: Beyond the Camera, The Making of The Hitch-Hiker Illustrated). Mary also knew Jeffrey Hunter; her mother, actress Emily McLaughlin, married Hunter just three months before he died.

“Paul’s latest book, Roy Huggins: Creator of Maverick, 77 Sunset Strip, The Fugitive and…, is an intimate portrait of the Emmy Award-winning writer/producer that includes in-depth interviews with many members of Huggins’ personal and professional family, including actress Katherine Crawford (Roy’s daughter), film and television executive Frank Price (Roy’s colleague on The Virginian and, later, his son-in-law), actress Stepfanie Kramer (Hunter), and Roy’s longtime right-hand man at Universal Television, Jo Swerling Jr. Paul was also granted access to Roy’s personal papers and unpublished memoirs, giving the book direct insight into Huggins’ formative years and early career at RKO, Columbia Pictures, 20^th Century Fox and Warner Bros. Television.

Roy Huggins: Creator of Maverick, 77 Sunset Strip, The Fugitive and… also includes one of the last interviews given by Juanita Bartlett, the Emmy-nominated writer-producer who passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 25. Bartlett collaborated on many occasions with both Roy Huggins and James Garner, most notably on The Rockford Files. With that in mind, we will replay our August 2012 conversation with Juanita as part of our first hour.”

The third-longest running Western on television (nine seasons, second only to Gunsmoke and Bonanza), The Virginian was also the first 90-minute Western series produced for network television. My book A History of Television’s The Virginian: 1962-1971 not only features interviews with many of the actors and behind-the-scenes personnel of The Virginian, but shows how the series helped paved the way for the made-for-TV movie, while also playing an important role in the career of Roy Huggins.”
