For your interest – a 1962 publicity photo of the cast from The Virginian. This photo includes Pippa Scott who was originally cast as the editor of the Medicine Bow Banner and the love interest of the Virginian. Her character was dropped mid-way through the first season when Roy Huggins took control of the series. One of the reasons being the Virginian needed to be free of a specific romantic attachment to allow for more love interests in future episodes. (Thanks to Betty Stamper for the photograph).
Great photo of The Virginian Cast(Actors). I love this photo!
Yes Betty. And interesting that Doug and Gary are not wearing their regular outfits. Even the Virginian’s outfit isn’t the classic version. This must have been on of the first publicity photos. Possibly before their costumes were finalized.
What a Great photo! Thanks
These are the outfits they wore in the first episode “The Executioners”, at Betsy’s birthday party. The trick Hugh O’Brian did with the piece of twine was one of his own conjuring tricks that he incorporated into the script. He spoke in Memphis about how he liked to do magic tricks and when I sent him some copies of an enlarged Search TV Guide cover he signed for me, I asked him if the trick with the twine was one of his own tricks. ( I was pretty sure it was) He faxed me back by E-Mail: “Nic, I put it in the script”.
Thanks for the interesting info regarding Hugh O’Brian Nic.
