Buck was one lucky horse. You could plainly see how well these two liked each other.

Hi Paul. Do you have any idea what became of the various horses used in the show? I can find information only on James Drury’s horse, Joe, which was put out to pasture and lived to be quite old. Did the studio own the horses or rent them from a movie-horse ranch?
Frank Price (executive producer) told me, “It varied. Sometimes the stars owned their horses. Sometimes they were owned by outside vendors.”
I interviewed James Drury and Sara Lane for an article I wrote for the “Appaloosa Journal” some years ago. They talk about Joe, Easter Ute and the horse that replaced Jo in “The Men From Shiloh.” And of course Jim talks about his horses in my book.
