The Virginian Coming to INSP Saturday, September 22

Great news for The Virginian fans in America. Cable network INSP will be broadcasting The Virginian starting September 22. Scheduled for broadcast over over a three year period the show will initially be part of the Saddle-Up Saturday line-up.

The Virginian premiered Wednesday September 19, 1962 on NBC at 7:30 PM so the INSP broadcast marks 50 years and three days since viewers were first introduced to the occupants of Shiloh Ranch.

Joining The Virginian will be another fan favorite and one of the best TV Westerns of the late 1960s The High Chaparral.

  1. Paul,

    Hi.

I have a big treat for you, if you haven’t already seen it…. I am sorry that I forgot all about this link, which I found when I was in Kyoto this past winter.

Jeffrey Hayden talks a lot about many shows, but it is worth wading through the interview to hear his recollections of Peter and about his work with him.

    Here it is: http://www.emmytvlegends.org/interviews/people/jeffrey-hayden

I hope you really enjoy it. I don’t know if he’s still around, but wouldn’t Mr. Hayden be a good person to interview, if you’re thinking of yet another book about Peter?

    Best wishes,

    Vicky Taylor

    1. Thanks Vicky. Mr. Hayden obviously understood Peter very well. The Russian roulette comment is interesting.

  2. I don’t think my cable carrier has this channel. I totally adored HIGH CHAPARRAL when it was on.
I haven’t checked Encore Western channel lately. I don’t know what’s on there. I hope those who DO get INSP have a great time with the SHILOH gang!

    1. Hi Kate : Encore currently shows Gunsmoke, Bonanza, Wagon Train, Have Gun Will Travel, Rawhide and Lawman. I get INSP on DirecTV so I hope many fans can watch The Virginian and High Chaparral episodes. Sorry to hear you can’t. The High Chaparral has been neglected in recent years (not by fans) so it’s good to see it back on the air.

  3. Thanks so much for heads up on the Jeffrey Hayden interview, Vicky. I loved hearing his memories of so many tv shows I remember, but especially for his memories of Alias Smith and Jones and Pete Duel. Fascinating stuff!

Paul, I’m glad to hear about the Virginian and High Chaparral coming to INSP. For once it’s a station we get!

    1. Good to hear from you moonface. 🙂 I only hope INSP don’t edit episodes too badly. Some years ago Hallmark cut at least ten minutes out of each Virginian episode to make way for commercials.

  4. I’ve just finished watching 3 seasons of THE HIGH CHAPARRAL on dvd. A German product from Kinowelt. And wow – what a really great Western it was! The stories, the acting, and the locations were excellent. A superior show featuring a ranch and family, imo, to BONANZA.

    1. Yes I agree it was a superior TV Western series Richard. It was repeated continuously on the BBC from its cancellation in 1971 to the early 1980s.
